temperature comp. board location 200 91

After enduring several years of an erratic temp gauge, I decided to remove the instrument panel on my '91 254 to check for loose wires, clean the temp comp. board, and/or voltage regulator. I was able to remove the cluster, now I can't figure how to remove the temp. comp. board. Also, I can't find the voltage regulator!! The two prongs, where I think the regulator goes, have a piece of rubber over them. Is it possible that the previous owner, manager of the local Volvo dealership, removed it and covered it with a piece of rubber? Do I really need this regulator? Is this the source of my crazy gauge? Am I looking at the wrong thing? Finally, as I was removing the inst. panel I noted an exposed white/green wire. The wire is part of a group of three wires that attach to the white panel on the back of the instrument panel. What is this wire for?

Please help and thanks in advance!!!!!

Molly
