Engine Misses, Won't Start, Dies While Driving 200 1989

My 1989 Volvo 240DL wagon has had the following symptoms: misses while driving, doesn't matter what speed, normally while accelerating; sometimes dies while driving, usually starts right back up; at times it won't start after being shut off, will start back up after an hour or so. Now it won't start - it cranks, but won't start. Here's what I've had done - distributor cap, ignition rotor, ignition coil, and spark plugs replaced, and cleaned throttle body. What do I try next? Trying to advise my Goodyear mechanic who doesn't normally work on Volvos.
