Re-starting on hot days 700 1989

My '89 740 wagon will not re-start on hot (90F+) days once the engine is warmed up. It never occurs in the winter or on cool days. When I try to re-start, the engine will turn over but not start. Sometimes I am able to re-start it if I depress the gas pedal and hold it for a few seconds. If I let up on the gas pedal and get it in gear too soon the engine dies. It will also re-start after the car has been sitting for an hour or so. Once started, no more problems.....until I try to re-start it.
