Front End Groan 900 1996

We have a 1996 960 Wagon with nearly 79K miles on it. For about the last 6 months, I have noticed an audible groan in the front end when driving over rough/broken pavement, or while driving over speed bumps. I have had a couple of Volvo dealers' service dept. check it out, and both said that it is OK. It was originally worse when cold, but now I hear it all of the time. My original thought, and the one I am sticking to, is that the front struts are going, going, ... Any other thoughts? If that is the case, any suggestions for replacements? Genuine Volvo parts, or something else? Thanks in advance.
