Some of you may remember the many messages that I have posted in the past month, and they all have related to an ongoing brake job. This latest installment is yet another twist in what was to be a relatively simple four brake disc replacement. After pulling off both front rotors and replacing them, i managed to break the piston seals while i was compressing them. i'm still trying to blame that on the old age of the car (or my dad) anyway, i bought new calipers, (and i might rebuild the old ones) but one problem lingers.
to replace the calipers, I need to get the old ones off. i've removed the big bolts, but the brake lines remain stuck. so after a few futile efforts (wd-40, wrenches, vise-grips, etc.) the hex fittingon that connects the metal brake line to the rubber line is somewhat stripped. (a side note: anyone know what size that nut is? it seems to be between metric and sae sizes) enough rambling, i'll get to the real question: I need creative ideas to somehow remove the brake caliper from the car. It is being held in place by one brake line. (i forgot to mention that i got the other one off, didn't I?) I've entertained ideas of cutting any number of things and just replacing the whole mess, but i have a bad feeling that more problems will arise.
