cause of "bulb out" light? 200 1992

As a new and proud owner of a 1992 Volvo 240, I've been getting as much information as possible about the cars. I've read a lot about the "bulb out" light and being caused by loose grounds, mismatched bulbs and etc, but is it possible for a light out in the dash or accessory panel to cause this? (you know, like the A/C button light, or whatever) My "bulb out" light comes on intermittently, so I'm going to check for mismatched bulbs and loose grounds to see if I can nail the minor problem, but just thought I'd ask the veterans!

Thanks in advance,

Seth
