Re: Oil in Intake - Could this be the end

Peter,

As people have pointed out it comes with the territory your odometer indicates. Stan, our 88 DL with 209,000 requires throttle body cleaning and the oil wiped out much more often than cars with lesser experience. The flame trap needs to be watched more carefully as well. Replacing the flexible hose sounds good, but if you are cleaning your own throttle body don't soak it. Use carb cleaner and something like an old toothbrush to scrub the walls and butterfly clean (make the edges of the butterfly spotless)- make sure the small diameter holes are open. If you have the plastic assembly at the bottom of the throttle body remove it and clean it up inside. Avoid any carb cleaner running down the shaft into the internal electric area (thus the warning not to soak it). With the compression you indicate the engine sounds healthy and ready for many more miles- just realize its needs increase with age.
