Power steering Works left but not right 900 1995

Here is one for the PS gear heads:

The PS suddenly failed when making a quick right turn into a parking spot. What is really strange is that the power assist has remained fine for turns to the left, but is intermittent for turns to the right. Sometimes the feel is normal to the right, but most of the time the assist is weak or non-existant to the right. Fluid and belt are fine.

What could cause this problem? Is there any repair short of replacing the rack?
