bad starter or safety switch?? 700 89

Thanks for the suggestions, Bricksters. Today I ran a wire (alligator clips) from the + battery terminal to the small wire (unhooked wire and connected to spade connector on starter). NOTHING. sparks at the + terminal of the battery tells me current is flowing, but the starter appears dead.

I've removed the neutral safety switch and have ordered a replacement ($56 plus tax and shipping)

I'll try to replace the starter, but with my hip replacement surgery only two weeks ago, it's going to be tough. guess I will wait for son to come home for summer vacation in 2 weeks.

Thanks again for all your help. Genaro.
