a/c failure 700 1988

Our '88 745T's air conditioning died suddenly yesterday. The clutch is not engaging. The pressure switch on the receiver/drier shows continuity (closed). Resistance from the clutch solenoid connector to neg battery terminal reads normal--about 3.5 ohms, so it's not the ground or the coil. (Better not be--the clutch and solenoid were replaced last summer.) Fan runs, which implies that the fuse is OK per the diagram on the console ashtray. So, a couple questions:

1) Where is the a/c relay? The wiring service manual diagram points vaguely at the dash, though apparently not at the fuse/relay area in the console.

2) The manual also shows an electrical connection to both the compressor AND a "solenoid". Isn't the solenoid the ONLY electrical connection on the compressor? Is this referring to the clutch solenoid, or is there some sort of vac valve or similar that I'm missing?

3) Any other ideas?

Thanks!
