change the oil, get a code?? 200 88

This is from a friend who owned a Volvo 200 for 4 years and only put 20000 miles on it because of this frustration.

He is religious on oil changes. He's a good enough wrencher that I believe this and that's why I'm throwing out to the group.

He drives 3000 miles with no problem, he does an oil and filter change an ,Bam, he gets a check engine light. It's under warranty so a phone call to Volvo and the tow truck is there. This was not a one time occurance, it happened for 4 years until he decided it was ridiculous and sold the car.

Any thoughts at all??
