If your 960 engine hiccups, stumbles or shudders, look inside engine wiring harness connectors at the coils. I found insulation had crumbled on metal female connections that had corroded and broke upon being handled. Hence, the above symptoms and even cutout with car movements. For a cure that takes little labor and money ($3-$5), go to Radio Shack and buy two or three packages of snap connectors (Cat. No. 64-3085). These will fit inside the plastic body of the Volvo female connectors at the coil. Fit of metal female Radio Shack connectors onto metal male connectors on the coils can be tightened with pliers. I do not know yet how well these Radio Shack connectors will stand heat, gases, etc. atop the engine. I will post when I find connectors that fit perfectly tight and will last more or less forever atop the engine.
If your engine does not hiccup, stumble or shudder, look nonetheless inside engine wiring harness connectors at the coils. You will likely find you want to do the above cure, or a better one, before your engine hiccups, stumbles and shudders at an inconvenient time and place in the near future.
