Strut cartridge replacement = "Clunk" 200 84

Replaced the front strut cartridges on my 240 GL using KYB GR-2's. Also replaced the strut bearings with Scatech brans, the swaybar links with Myle brans and insstalled a turbo sway bar with all new bushings.

Now the wheels have a loud "chuck" -ing sound down low at the slightest roughness in the road. It was present from the beginning -- as soon at the front tires hit the bottom of the driveway. It is from both sides, but the right side slightly louder, more frequent (but it also hit more roughness on the roads)

My reaseach of the archives tells me I need to double check the cartridge nut that holds the cartridge into the strut tube. Aslo, On some Turbo and GT cars, which have the longer strut tubes, a spacer under the cartridge is needed. I don't beleive mine has turbo or GT strut tubes.

Is there anything about these KYB GR-2's that I need to know (like, are they shorter than most? do they require a spacer?)

Is there a specific torque spec for the swaybar links where they attatch to the control arm (I couldn't find one, so, I made them the least tight I could which would still allow them to rock between their mounting "ears" and not bind up into a specific angle.)

I did also loosen and re-bolt the tie rod ends from the control arm. I left these old rod ends in and the ball joints because I could not find any play in them before beginning this job.

I also installed rebuilt calipers, steel brake lines (another sob story!) and new flex hoses.

I'll try to tighten the cartridge nut -- I reused the Volvo original, not the KYB-supplied nuts. The Volvo seemed to thread easier.

Finally, is there some sort of retainer or collar that fits under the cartridge nut to center the cartridge within the tube? One post in the archived gave me that impession.

I would like to discover and repair this problem because I want to replace the strut inserts on my '86 this coming week (using Boge Turbo Gas)
