how full is my a/c charge? 700 1985

My a/c has never worked since I got the car in January. I finally got around to locating some r134a. Unfortunately, it wasn't that much. The ac's always running but doesn't get as cool as 50F (I forgot the actual temp). This's a problem when I'm in traffic cuz the temp guage starts going up.

I know on other cars, I can look for a thing that shows a bubble. When the bubble's small or nearly gone, I know the system's charged. Where can I located that bubble on my 85 740 gle sedan 4cyl? Or is there another way to tell that my system's fully charged?

Thanx people.

Jay
