Check Engine Light 900 1996

I have searched the 7XX/9XX FAQ's, but it doesn't seem that my 1996 960 wagon fits the exact bill. My CHECK ENGINE light came on, and I don't want to let the Volvo dealer determine that it needs a $500 fix. Is there a way that I can pull the codes to see what the problem is. Within the last 3 months, I had the secondary air pump and check valve replaced, and don't want to go through that again. I know my OBD II recepticle is just to the right of my parking brake handle, but beyond that, I need help.

Also, does anyone know where I might find salvage Volvo parts (I am looking for a center console armrest, tan leather)? My latching clip broke.

Thanks in advance.
