CBV......Test and Replacement 700 1988

How do I test my CBV? I seem to hear a rushing noise as the boost builds up and because I run rich at boost and cannot find any air leaks in the intake maybe the CBV is to blame? What modifications need to be made to adapt the Porsche CBV and is this the best choice? Any opinions/experience are appreciated, Thanks!
