16valve headgasket repair,hints? 700 89

MY 744 has a leak of oil into the water and out to the atmosphere from the head gasket. It's getting kind of messy and I'm losing a quart every 2-300 miles!

I was quoted $1800 for a repair! This includes machining the head and new water pump, thermo...maybe belts.

Anyway, I've done OHC engines before and recently changed the timing belts on my 745 16v (the one with NO cooling fan, still doing fine guys).

After reading Chiltons (Haynes or Bentley do not cover 16v), the only thing that seems worrisome is removing the cams from the head OR do I have to do this? Will a machine shop take the whole head and remove the cams themselves to re-grind the valves?

Any machine shops in south Boston area recommended?
