Oil Filter Change without Mess. 200 1980

Hi. On my Mazdas and my Suzuki, I can change the oil filter without it dribbling oil everywhere. (I can do the "MA" Mazda engine with long sleeve shirt on and keep it clean.)

But on the 244 (80 - Right Hand Drive - Australia), it pours oil over everything - the engine block, the steering column, rack, wishbones, etc. Then it drips for the next couple of days. I take off the stone tray so it doesn't get messed up. Is this bad design, or am I missing out on something obvious.

Alan
