Hop On .. Jerks and Cruise To Nowhere 900 1991

Hi fellas,

I have a 940GLE, 1991, 16 valve engine. Where I live (Malaysia) volvo had not introduced cruise control yet. It was only after 1993 that cruise control was introduced as an optional accessory. So naturally mine was not pre-wired for cruise.

After figuring out, I bought the parts from a junkyard in US and later the cables and sockets from John Sargent (thanks John - you're reading this) and the wiring diagram came from John Hibbert of down under (thanks to you too).

Last weekend spent the whole day wiring the components together and checking and re-checking on the wires and it seems that everything are as per the diagram. Bought a test light and tested the live connection at various setting of the On/Off switch everything is fine. I am using a 14 pin connection cruise unit. The cruise unit is of Hella brand. The junkyard dealer told me its from a 1991 model.

Tested on the road.... The car jerked once and twice but after that nothing happened. Nothing at all. I thought a vacumm leak and checked the vacumm hose but they are fine. To satisfy my sceptical brother, I tried direct connection from battery terminal and the vacumm pump sucked and we can see that the cable at the servo is pulling causing the throttle spool to spin. I check the wires from the cruise unit socket to the vacumm pump with test meter (on all three wires)no open circuit.

Right now I have this jerking problem with no cruise control. It would jerk a few times after a prolong engine off normally at the begining of steady acceleration (around 40KM)and sometimes it would stall. I can see the RPM as it moves to 2000, something is causing it to cut the power on the engine hence the jerkings. I have no clue why. If the car survives the jerkings, then it runs smooth. I think that the cruise unit is messing up my ecu or some sensor parts because I tapped from the yellow wire behind the speedo meter marked "E". The jerks also happens when I try to engage the cruise control.

On top of all these, I noticed that each time after releasing brake pedal about 10 seconds later there is a single "click" sound coming from the gear shift lever. If I put my hand on it and wait for the sound, I can feel the click after 10 second of releasing the brake pedal. This happens without fail.

Have I screwed our family car??? Please help..... I appreciate any comments ...
