2nd gear Pop Out 200 1986

My 1986 Volvo 240 DL Wagon with standard transmission has a tendency to pop out of 2nd gear on an incline when 2nd gear is needed for an extended but short period. In short it does not go solidly into 2nd gear and stay there like all other gears. The car is otherwise mint. This is its only glitch. Any ideas on cause? What to do?
