It could possibly be the fuel pressure regulator> If the rubber diaphram is worn out you will be getting too much fuel causing it to choke itself out and die. The vehicle can run with the extra fuel on start up, but once it warms up it progressively requires less fuel to air mix. I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. My mechanic diagnosed the problem perfectly and the car has run mint ever since. The part runs about $40.00 to $45.00 dollars and is really easy to put in. If I remember correctly the total repair was less than $100.00 with some other tune-up parts put in (New Bosch distributor cap & rotor)

It sounds like your current mechanic should become your EX-Mechanic. Either they want you to come back and eventually spend some big bucks

(They could be setting you up) or They could just be incompetent. I'd post the brickboard for local mechanics in your area and talk to other Volvo owners in your area to find a really good, trustworthy independent mechanic.
