Re: Help, check engine light on how do I find problem 700 1989

Hey Scott:

You can pull diagnostic codes for your car. The check engine light comes on when there is a malfunction that affects the emissions control system. If you want a good discussion of how to access codes and what they mean look at the 700/900 guide by Steve Ringlee at http://brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/Engine-Codes1.shtml#Engine and OBD Diagnostic Codes

I am not sure how similar the 88 is to the 89, but the 88 seems to be the last model that Haynes covers. Chiltons makes a generic sedan model book, which is not great but helpful. My Barnes and Noble store has it in stock now, so you might check and see if you can find one there. Of course, all the libraries are closed on the Fourth...

Hope this helps.
