Dieseling/Engine Won't Shut Off Partially Solved 200 1983

Midas has the Midas touch. I took my car to them for a problem unrelated to my dieseling. They successfully shut off the engine by turning off the ignition and putting the automatic transmission into reverse. So, what's the cause for the dieseling?
