Shaft movement 700 1989

Contemplating turbo replacement, I decided to take off the intake hoses and take a peek at the turbo. The shaft doesn't move side to side nearly at all, but it does move in and out about 1/4 inch. As in, I can take hold of the shaft and pull it towards the front of the car and it will move about 1/8 inch forward, if I push it, it will move 1/8 inch back.

Is this a problem?
