"Good day, I hope you can help me. I have a 1985 740 turbo. I was driving in a bit of traffic going around 50MPH when I tried to
accelerate and the engine had a very big lack of power. the Boost gauge climed a bit past the red when I pressed the gas but it didn't go
any faster till I backed off the throttle a bit and even then the car still lacked the power that it had eariler. I thought that it was the OD (over drive). so I
shifted out of OD and the car still had no power, yes it felt like car shifted back into 4th but no power, then when I hit to OD button again
the car felt like it went but this time the light indicating that I was in OD did not come on. again I tried to give it more gas and I still noticed
that the boost gauge would move but no real power. I stopped the car for a min and looked under the hood, it was idleing good so I tried to
go again, through the gears it hesitated and up hill was a joke going only 25 MPH I got to a friends house and popped the hood and shut it
off I noticed that the motor was really hot, this I assumed was from the stop and go driving that i just did. after waiting about 20 min I had to
go and the car was running better, and the OD light was working again too!! so now I'm confused was it the temprature?? or a fuel problem??
the tranny?? , it did it again last night, what I
notice is that the Boost gauge climbs pretty quickly
more than usual and it seems to be accompanied by a
WHOOSHING sound that starts a second after adn remained untill I lifted offthe throttle, I heard the
Turbo start to whine. my last car was a Subaru Legacy
Turbo. and it made that WhOOSHING sound too, but just
for a second because that was the sound of the blowoff
valve sending boost back into the intake tube when I
lifted my foot off the throttle could the blowoff
valve be getting stuck?? how would I check for this
and what would be the fix??
thank you for your help.
