240 Front End Woes, Help! 200 1986

OK picked up a 244 dl for a winter beater/ always wanted one car, it got 178,000 miles on it and is in decent shape engine runs well and the body is decent. I paid $900.00 for it and for the two months I have had it no problems. But I knew it needed front end work so I took it in. here is what it needs 2 front tie rods right and left and the upper bushings are shot, it also needs new front brake pads and an alingment if the tie rods are replaced. So here is my question finally, the quoted me $980.00 to do all this which is way more then I want to pay. First of all is this high for the items described? Second can I get away without doing the bushings and just do the tie rods? I am not really sure what to do? I love the car but didn't want to put a ton of money into it and didn't think the cost to fix those things would be so high....any suggestions? thanks for oyu help
