I'm Back -- Brake Problems 700 1987

Hi All:

I recently went to get my brakes checked out b/c they were squeaking quite a bit. The mechanic said that my roters were worn and could not be turned.

He quoted me a price of $530 for metallic brake pads (front)($37), disc pads (rear) ($37), bearings ($15) and roters ($125 ea.). I suspect the difference is labor. I live in the Northern Virginia area.

He also said my shocks were shot. (I didn't even get into pricing here -- my budget can only take so much at one time.)

I want to be smart about this. I'm too poor to just hand my money over to a greedy-take advantage of women-mechanic. Is this a fair price? I'm thinking of getting another opinion.

Any comments/suggestions are always appreciated. Thanks so much. Jennifer
