Desperate - no start! 200 1986

Hi Guys,

The 245 won't start. It cranks over ok so the battery is ok. Fuel is smelt at the tailpipe so to carb appears ok. It just turns and makes no attempt to fire, and the battery light does not come on. I'm thinking alternator but i'm desperate and would be grateful for any insight into this.
