164 running hot update 140-160 1970

Well, I've done some work on the crazy tractor...

I found that the cap for the overflow tank was not actually

sealing the cap at all; the springy thingy was too short. I

found another tank (the smaller kind from a 140) that had a

cap that sealed better. I'll order another one on monday from

the local volvo dealership. Anyone know what part number I

should order for a tank + cap?

Also, I put in a 160 degree t-stat.

Things have improved; if I let it idle for a long time the

temp gauge goes to almost half way (though it wasn't super hot

out so it may go higher). If I drive it around the temp gauge

hovers at a little bit above the mark at 1/4th, so in short

things have very much improved.

The coolant that came out was almost perfectly clean, so I'm

guessing that the car isn't too rusty inside.

The big question is -- is this good enough? How much hotter

will the car run if I put AC in?

Thanks, everyone.

chris
