I redid the interior door panels on my 72 164 using very thin rigid plastic sheets. I removed the old panels, peeled back the cover and padding which then allowed me to use the old as a template for the new panel. The plastic sheets come with paper covering for drawing. Buy a plastic sheet which bends easily and resists shattering (like Lexol.....I think thats a GE brand name. Rohm and Hass and Hypod also make this kind of sheet. Dont use polystyrene because it will splinter if the sabre saw catches while cutting.) Then some drilling, sabre saw work and a little edge sanding. If you are planning to reupholster the seats, buy extra matching fabric and 1/4 in. foam padding from the auto upholstery shop. 3M spray glue is excellent (expensive).
I could not find anyone who has molds to make up a molded carpet set. The choice was edged carpet mats or flat carpet, cut, seamed and glued in place. I went for the flat carpet, which I rough cut outside the car, then fit, trimmed, glued and seamed in the car. Actually, the carpet is glued to the rubber under carpet mats while the mats are held in place by their own weight and friction. Seats need to be out of the car for all of this.
