Hey Folks,
I've been a long time lurker and and a periodic contributor (mainly in the opinions section...I quit for a long time because of some of the in house bickering that used to take place. Lately I haven't seen any which is a good thing)
I have a couple of questions that I need answered.
First of all.....I have an 89 744 Turbo M46 with 175k on it. Date of manufacture is 8/88 and the car has the B230FT "K" engine with a Mitsu TD05-12B turbo.
I know that through reading the various Volvo sites I have come across info regarding which turbo (Garrett or Mitsu and whether it was a Mitsu TD04 or TD 05) went on which car during the 88-89 model years because of the variations.
Right off hand I cannot locate that info so I am asking...Do I have the original turbo model that came on a 1989 (manufactured 8/88) model year.
Second question....
I had what I thought was a reputable shop replace my water pump a year ago when I had my timing belt replaced.
They used one of the GMB water pumps..(I saw the box) and now I have a coolant leak. Thing is...it's not leaking from the little drain hole on the bottom of the water pump..it's appears to be leaking from possibly the seal at the end of the pump where the shaft comes out for the fan to bolt on. If I look down at the top of the water pump..right behind where the fan bolts on and just to the right of where the hose is clamped on ...there are ribs that run from front to back of the water pump.
Coolant seems to keep gathering there after each time I soak it up with a rag. The hose clamp is tight and the hose is in good shape so I know it's
not coming from that.
Is that seal a possible or common place for a leak..? I haven't had the time to pull the fan so that I can actually see the end of the shaft where it comes out of the water pump. I know that would be the only true way to answer this question but I thought I'd ask up front to see if this is a place that the water pumps normally leak from.
Any help will be greatly appreciated..
TIA
