Removing the rotor? 200 1983

I'm a new driver (I'm 18, first time I've done spark plugs) and I finally got around to replacing the spark plugs and wires in my old 1983 240DL today. Well, I replaced all the plugs and the wires with no trouble, and I went to replace the distributor cap and rotor. I got the cap off with no trouble and now I'm trying to get the rotor out. The Haynes' manual I'm using says I should be able to pull it straight out, but I've tried pulling on it and it barely moves at all. What's the trick? Thanks.

-Jim

PS

I tried searching the forums and all I could find useful at all was the 700/900 faq, sorry if this question has been asked before.
