Is there a relay for the A/C? 200

My A/C stopped working a couple weeks ago, and I noticed today that it no longer "clicks" on when I turn the knob. I checked the tension on the drive belts and everything looks 'n feels OK. I can't imagine that I suddenly lost my charge overnight, but it wouldn't really surprise me.

So, is the "click" a function of a relay in the A/C circuit, or is that the compressor cycling on? Either way, what should I check? How do I know if I've lost the charge?

FWIW, the system was converted to R134a about 18 months ago and has worked fine (as well as Volvo A/C works anyway) until recently.

TIA!
