I have posted a couple of times in the last month about fixing my broken electric speedo (not odometer) on my 87 wagon with m47 5 speed. Following excellent advice posted on the board (including the key advice that this voltage is AC voltage) I have found the problem to be the circuit board inside of the speedo has fried and actually melted a hole in the circuit board. Since my car is equipped with the 5 speed tranny it appears my worst fears may be realized. That is, it appears only an electric speedo from a 5 speed car will work properly. I have never seen another 5 speed car in the junk yard around here. The number printed on the speedo face plate right below the odometer is K9800. This doesn't match the automatic equiped cars that I've looked at. It is also different than an 86 m46 - 4 speed car. Am I right in thinking that the difference is in the gears inside of the speedo??. If so how many of the gears are different?? Maybe, the circuit boards are interchangeable?? although I would rather swap the entire unit. Any one out there have one of these units for sale.??
Did find something my Haynes manuel is good for in this process. It does show a method for the shim adjustment required if the transmitter in the differential is ever replaced.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts/comments.
