There's a strong smell of fresh gas in the passenger compartment. It's strongest when the level in the fuel tank is low. I believe the fumes are present in the trunk as well, though I haven't studied this problem that carefully yet.
Thought I'd try to tackle this problem this weekend, first by renewing the fuel filter and copper washers, and if need be inspecting the various components and lines in the fuel injection system to try to locate the source of the leak. Figured I'd check the lines between the fuel filler neck and the roll-over valve, the roll-over valve and the carbon filter, the carbon filter and the engine, the fuel tank and the fuel pump, the fuel filter and the engine, and the fuel pressure regulator and the engine; the fuel return line between the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel tank; and the injectors.
Archived posts suggest inpspecting the fuel return line where it goes under the rear seat and over the differential, and between the fuel pressure regulator and a metal pipe. Should I be looking on the underside of the car? Where is the fuel pressure regulator mounted and how will I know it when I see it? Same for the roll-over valve.
I'd welcome any suggestions and insight.
