Turbo or No Turbo 700 90-92

To all knowledgable Volvo owners. If there is only a $1000-$1500 price difference between a 1990-1992 Turbo and Non-Turbo 740 wagon, which would you guys and gals choose and why. I am in this situation and need your sage advice ASAP. PS. I am mechanically incline and with the right information can fix just about anything.
