Air con mystery 700 89

Here's one for the super sleuths. My wife and I were driving home tonight in her 765 and she called my attention to a blinking light. It was the one that surrounds the air conditioning button on the climate control panel. I have never seen this happen before and I drove the car a half hour later and it didn't do this. I don't think the air con was on to begin with and nothing changed when we turned it off and on or lowered and raised the heat setting. Is this the portent of something bad or just one of those weird bugs?
