Glowing Manifold 1800 1973

last night I took my 1800ES out for a test drive. I had just put in a Pertronix ignition and it was running great. after about 7 miles of casual driving and cruising at 40MPH, I lost power. Engine was turning but it felt like I was just slowing down. I nursed it off the road and under a light. Upon opening the hood, the exhaust manifold was cherry red. The starter will turn the engine but it won't fire very well. The tailpipe reports pressure at the rear. Could I have a "plugged" muffler? Has anyone had this happen? There is no catalytic converter but....this sounds like i'm a little constipated. Suggestions?

Christopher
