Here's the deal. I've got this really sweet 740, it's very clean, and appears to have been well maintained. I've had it for 3 months now, with zero complaints. The other day, I drive it to the store, and when I come out it cranks but will not fire. Very strange, I think, so I proceed to find and check all the fuses. All are intact, so I'm listening for the fuel pump, and I hear it come on for a second when the key is turned to on. I'm now thinking there must be some problem with the coil, or wire, and I visually check them, no obvious problem. I sadly deduce that there is some problem I cannot fix at the grocery store parking lot, and succumb to my girlfriends pleading for her to call AAA for a tow. We get home, and I'm too busy to do much right away, I buy the chiltons (which I'm less than pleased with) and finally take a minute and check to spark out. No spark at the plugs, none at the coil. I test the coil, and it passes within spec. I'm baffled until I read here on the brickboard that people have had problems with their flywheel position sensor. I take a look at mine, and it's a little corroded, has the yellow stripe, and has been spliced in, without a connector, just tape... Whistles are going off, so I contact my friendly volvo parts supplier, and order one. 3 days later I've got it in my hands, and in 10 minutes it's installed. I charge the battery up fresh, and crank it over, and it still won't start!!! Does anyone out there know of a step I overlooked, or maybe something that this sounds like? Could it be a bad computer? yikes! I also cannot get that diagnostic thingy on the drivers side fender to work, could it be commected? Any help is appreciated, I really don't want to lose face and ... take it to a repair shop. Thanks.
