Odd vibration under load 700 1989

Hello all-- see if you can help me figure out what is causing this.

When I'm putting a strong load (full throttle in 1st gear) on the car, a violent shaking/vibration comes from the transmission/driveshaft area (I think). It feels almost as if a gear is slipping, slamming into the next tooth. It also does it in reverse, if I try to back up quickly. Just driving around, however, it is totally silent. It is most noticable when I'm driving up a steep hill and I stomp on it, and it is the worst right around the torque peak of the engine.

Any ideas?

Thanks
