For driving in snow you really want the narrowest snow tires you can lay your hands on, they cut through all the loose stuff on top and get down to where the traction is. I've seen 155r15s on 140s and I never saw them in a ditch but have seen plenty of other cars in ditches with "all-season" (should be name "no-season" tires) tires. If you live in the north part of the country you should ALWAYS have a set (4) of snows ready to go on the car. I've got 4 studded snows all set for this winter.
