Engine diagnostic codes? 700 1987

Can anyone point me to a listing of the diagnostic codes for the ignition module? This is an EZ-117K unit; the car is a 1987 740 turbo, US model. I've found the 1989+ codes; unfortunately they don't apply.

As background, the problem I'm trying to diagnose is a car that won't run. The first several attempts at starting result in a stumble and stall. Eventually I can get it to a slow rough idle with no throttle response whatever. I finally managed to get a reading with a timing light, and the ignition is retarded about 40 degrees. I've already checked camshaft timing and tried disconnecting the knock sensor. The car was running fine one day; next morning it wouldn't start.

Any pointers greatly appreciated.
