Hi George...It was a M41 1800 71

based on that info, Both trannys were M41s.

THe one that came with the car had leaked for years...The PO said he had to put oil in 'all the time'...Well, we aall know how much fun that is and how convenient...in any case the trans must have been run dry many times, I salvaged the switches, the reaset top and the o/d but the rest was 'recycled'.

Unless I am all confused the slip joint only allows for and aft movement between the center carrier and the rearend, not between the carrier and the ujoint at the front. ???

I loosened all the bolts from the motor mounts on back to the center bearing bolts and there is still a gap !!! ???
