88-93 sparkplug wiresets 200 89

Hello Bricksters:

I have an 89 240 nonturbo. I recently installed a used wireset from an 83 nonturbo 240. Worked fine (or so I thought), then the car started throwing codes, such as the throttle body was out of adjustment...adjusted till I'm blue in the face, idles and runs fine, and still "check engine" light returns and remains on. Could the correct year sparkplug wireset make that much of a difference?

Anybody know what the difference is between the 76-87 wiresets and the 88-93??? Thanks for your help.
