Tire removal at home - possible?

I have quite a few decent wheels with lousy tires.

I'm running out of room to store such things. Wheels WITHOUT tires would take up so much less room.

I've pretty much worn out my welcome at local tire shops getting them to do this for me.

Any way to do this at home without buying expensive machinery?
