Freeing a hard nut 200 90

I was trying to change the thermostat on my 240, simple job you do in a few minutes. One nut broke free easily. The other is hard stuck. I kept spraying wd 40 on for the morning. Used a breaker bar, but I can feel the nut is starting to mess up. Any tips? My fall back is to take it in to the shop, my guess is that an impact wrench will spin it right out. Im just afraid to be stuck with messed up nut, and have that much more expense to remove it. With a flanged nut that Volvo uses , it seems hard to use a nut cracker too.
