Any reason this hose is rubber? 700 1989

There is a hose on my 89' 760 Turbo that goes into the Intake manifold (I think thats what its called, where the throttle cable attaches) from the intercooler, half of it is metal, and then directly around the engine it is rubber. Welllll, this hose has severely deteriorated and has a hole in it and likes to pinch off airflow, causing turbo overheat and not allowing full boost. I patched it (Temp) with hose tape and have been looking for it, but then a genius idea came to me. My friends dad works at a Semi-Outfitting place (Turbos, accell brakes exe.) and he could mandrell bend me the tube custom & then i could use this w/ rubber attachments on both sides. Tell me, is this a bad idea? Also, in case i dont do this, can someone give me a part number on this baby? and a site to order off? Thanks a million trillion billion times!
