WDM #9 Epilogue 200

I finally got to the salvage yard and pulled an ignition switch... $6.50; not bad for an education. Not to mention another spare.

Anyway, my conclusion is that the schematic representation in the Volvo Green book (TP 30678/1) on p1, and Bentley on pp 390-8 and 390-9, are pretty much correct to the extent of what they show; these drawings just aren't quite complete. What I mean is this:

Functionally, the switch really is made up of two switches - a SPDT and 3P4T. All "pole" terminals are connected to switch terminal 30.

The changes that I would suggest to be made to the drawing would be:

(1) Add another SP4T section, with terminal R hard-connected to Positions I & II.

(2) To the section that shows terminal 15 hard-connected to Positions II & III, there should be a hard-connection for terminal P to Positions 0 & I.

(3) The SPST should be changed to a SPDT, with one "throw" terminal (key "IN") hard-connected to terminal S (as is shown), and the other "throw" terminal (key "OUT") connected to terminal P (this in addition to the two "P" postions in #2 above).

So I agree with the chart on the wiring diagram. Big of me, huh. I'm sure Volvo was sweating Viggens, waiting for my results. Whoops, I guess Viggens are Saabs, aren't they? Doesn't matter; soon everyone will be using JSF's.

Does this make sense? I guess I should join the rest of you in the 21st century, and learn how to post drawings... well, maybe some day.
