WHich goes first, the engine or the trans mount? 200 1983

It's a good idea to do all three mounts together. The motor mounts with their slanted mounting plane always want to slide downward and rearward. But they can't because of the transmission mount.

When the trans mount begine so fail due to oil damage over the years, it will give way and allow the engine-trans unit to move down and rearward. It's a good thing you found the oil filter resting on the mount, the next phase can do more damage.

It is a DIY job. The first one I did I used a bottle jack and blocks of wood under the oil pan WITH CARE. The next one will be different. Maybe the bottle jack, but under the alternator mount for the PS and the a/c mount on the DS.

The trans mount should be done after the motor mounts.

Need more info? Just ask.

Good Luck,

Bob
