water pump replacement 900 940

Need to replace water pump on 65k 95 945..2 of them replaced under factory warranty... Tension on belt seems ok..what the heck is wrong with volvo oem water pumps????? Any dificulty replacing?? seems from my Haynes manual to be fairly staright forward... they say radiator needs to be remmoved... possible to do it without removal??? Also...what kind of gasket do you recommend??one with water pump???use a permatex type one??..if so which type...(I have had on other cars leakage at the gasket before)..thanks guys..JOHN
